Session Description

Understanding the Farm Credit System Insurance: FCSIC & Captive Insurance

Thursday, November 20, 2025

9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Effective risk oversight requires more than reviewing internal reports—it demands understanding the broader risk protections that safeguard the entire Farm Credit System. This session introduces directors to two critical components of the System’s risk strategy: the Farm Credit System Insurance Corporation (FCSIC) and the System’s Captive Insurance program.
Through overviews and discussion, directors will explore how these entities support long-term System stability, how their governance aligns with cooperative values, and how individual boards play a role in strengthening institutional and System-wide resilience. Participants will leave with a greater appreciation for how risk is managed beyond the balance sheet—and how to bring that perspective into their own boardrooms.

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Understand the role of FCSIC and Captive Insurance in protecting the Farm Credit System.
  2. Recognize how these programs contribute to financial strength and risk resilience.
  3. Explore the board’s responsibility in shaping and supporting a proactive risk strategy.
  4. Discuss how risk oversight is evolving and what that means for directors.
  5. Strengthen awareness of System-wide interdependence and shared governance accountability.
